The main objective of the study programme in Electrical Engineering is to train students of Electrical engineering to perform individually the design, construction, testing, serving and maintenance of electrical machines and devices, electric power plants and processes.

The interest for the study programme has been gradually growing ever since it was started in 1950s and our engineers have been easily employed in public entities, industry, shipyards, schools, hospitals, design studios, labs, government agencies and private companies. Some of the companies are our partners in the process of education.

The Electrical engineering department of the Zagreb University of Applied Sciences has seen 530 engineers graduate so far, while the predecessor of the Polytechnic – the Technical college produced more than 3000 engineers.

Over the years we have developed and equipped new labs for the following course groups: computers, telecommunications, optical telecommunications, electrical engineering and measurements fundamentals, computer networks, transformers, electric machines, automation and control, electronics and process control computers. In the first year of study the programme offers the common courses for all students and the three areas of specializations after that:

  • Electrical power engineering
  • Automation and computer process control
  • Communication and computer technology

The specialization in Electrical power engineering is oriented towards the application, protection, control and maintenance of electric machines and devices, electric power networks and plants and electric motor drives. The specialization in Automation and Computer Process Control is oriented towards finding solutions to engineering tasks in automated control of technical systems in industry, economy, transport, commerce, health care, etc.

The specialization in Communication and computer technology is oriented towards modern telecommunication, radio communication and computer systems, scientific principles they are based on, the most relevant fields of their application and the conditions of their interconnectivity and mutual functioning. The specializations off er the possibility of choosing two highly specialized electives in diff erent semesters.

The final stage of the study programme is carried out through practical training which lasts for 6 weeks and writing a final thesis. Each student is assigned a mentor who instructs the student which electives to choose, but also approves the subject of the final thesis and confirms carrying out the practical work. At the end students take the final exam which they have to defend publicly in order to get a grade.
